Our Horses

Meet Our Horses!

Lil Bit

Lil Bit is a beautiful, bay Quarter Horse mare who is a true people-pleaser! She is very sensitive, responsive and always tries hard to please her rider. She is Chris’ horse and together they have participated in a variety of equestrian events including Parelli Natural Horsemanship, Reining and Reined Cow Horse, pleasure riding and trail riding. Lil Bit helps teach children who work with her how to control their body energy and body language because she is so sensitive that you can ask her to perform a trick with even the most subtle cues!

Shiloh

Shiloh and Lil Bit are best friends and pasture mates but even though they love each other (which Shiloh demonstrates every time Lil Bit leaves their pasture by whinnying for her the whole time she’s gone) these two horses are actually very different. Shiloh, a chestnut Quarter Horse mare, is cuddly, confident and laid back. She has quiet, relaxed energy that makes her rider feel safe and secure, but she can also be lazy from time to time and requires assertive leadership from her human partner. Shiloh loves attention and treats! If she had her way, she would have children groom her, pet her and feed her carrots all day every day!

Bear

Bear is an adorable Buckskin gelding who will do just about anything for a treat – even stand with his front legs on a pedestal and pose! He is very playful, confident, and expressive. He loves to play with balls, sticks, toys, and anything else he can pick up in his mouth or push around with his body. You have to watch your hat around Bear because he will pick it up in his mouth and take it right off the top of your head! Bear is very steady for his rider and although he can be lazy sometimes, he is also sensitive to cues and very well-trained.

Simmer

Simmer is a rescued chestnut gelding who is most likely a Mustang and Quarter Horse cross. He is a very special horse who was mistreated in his early life before he came to Trails to Success. After his bad experiences, Simmer was nervous around people and acted jittery which is how he got his name (his new, trust-worthy human partners asking him to “Simmer Down”). Simmer had to re-learn how to trust people but now he has truly simmered down and loves to help people who are nervous around horses learn to trust him. He is the leader of his pasture and best friends with Bear.

Blaze

Blaze is definitely a “horse of a different color”! He is a Red Roan Paint with a Dun stripe and a huge white blaze on his face (where he got his name.) Blaze is gentle and sweet and likes a lot of tender-loving care from his human partner. He is very expressive and will let you know that he is nervous by blowing air loudly out of his nostrils, requesting that you move more slowly or asking for a comforting pat. Blaze is sensitive and extremely tuned-in to the person who is handling him, staying very focused on his human partner during ground games. But Blaze also has a mind of his own and requires his rider to stay focused in order to keep him going in the direction they want to go. With a kind and assertive rider, Blaze will be a wonderful teammate!

Moxy

Moxy is the newest addition to the Trails family. She is a gorgeous brown and white Paint mare who is only 4 years old. Moxy might be young, but she is also incredibly smart and a fast learner! She is quickly learning the importance of having both trust and respect for her human partners. Moxy needs a human partner who will be both kind and reassuring in order to earn her trust while also balancing their kindness with firm, assertive leadership so Moxy doesn’t think she can always get her own way. Moxy has become more and more affectionate since she came to us and it is obvious that she is very happy to have found a home at Trails!
