ADULT RIDING LESSONS
Many parents have seen the horse be an amazing agent of change for their children and thus we've started offering adult riding lessons at the ranch. With the help of their equine partners, parents experience the positive benefits of supporting each other and functioning as a team in the real-life ranch setting where everyone is given the opportunity to learn about themselves through the powerful work the horse enables.
The ranch is a beautiful, calming setting where families can relax, enjoy the outdoors, and have fun together all while learning effective problem-solving, communication, negotiation, and other teamwork skills through our horsemanship and other experiential programs. We've seen it be an amazingly empowering experience for children to build confidence as we help them serve (maybe for the first time) as the “leader" for their family.
Please email Dr. Duis for enrollment in the Adult Riding Lesson Program.
IN HARMONY WITH A HORSE
Our program is unique in that we focus on developing a lasting partnership with our horse first and foremost. The Trails to Success philosophy is that horses have something very special to offer us: the opportunity to learn new and effective ways of interacting that can extend beyond the barn door and be applied in other areas of our lives. Lessons are specifically tailored to each individual’s needs and we support horse lovers at all levels and disciplines to achieve success, partnership and harmony with their horse.
We are focused on the "whole horse experience” which includes everything from horse care and learning horse psychology to advancing riding skills. Unlike many training programs, the natural horsemanship method is focused on developing the human, not training the horse, and will teach you how to interact with your horse similar to how horses naturally interact with each other.

WHAT HORSE SKILLS ARE TAUGHT?
Our lessons include every facet of the equine experience. We believe that a special bond and learning experience occurs when one cares for their horse in a holistic way and does not just “jump on and kick to go!”
You (or your child) will:
• Learn the psychology behind horse behavior and how to “read” a horse’s body language and feelings
• Explore herd dynamics and how horses communicate naturally with each other
• Greet their horse in the stall or pasture and lead them to the barn
• Brush them, comb their manes and tails, and pick out their feet
• Saddle and bridle their horse in preparation for riding
• Play games with their horse on the ground including leading through obstacle courses, learning how to exercise their horse in a circle, and playing Leadership games in the round pen
• Ride bareback with a focus on improving balance and posture
• Ride through an obstacle course with a focus on steering
• Play fun games on horseback that improve balance, gentle yet assertive leadership, and overall harmony with the horses
